Cristian Larroulet
Cristian Larroulet, researcher at DESENTR, recently published the article “Chile: Population Decline and Ageing” in Mirada Sur, examining the country’s rapidly changing demographic landscape and its main economic and social implications.
Larroulet highlights that Chile now has one of the world’s lowest fertility rates, alongside a rapidly growing older population, creating significant challenges for the labour market, pension system, and long-term economic growth. In this context, he places particular emphasis on the productive potential of older adults and the need to strengthen their economic and entrepreneurial participation.
The article also draws on research conducted at Universidad del Desarrollo with support from the Templeton Foundation, showing the important role of entrepreneurship among older adults while identifying persistent challenges related to formalisation, access to finance, and business networks.
